DSC01166As many of you know, a week ago I arrived back to UK from Cancún. Even though I have already being sharing some of my pictures on our KANKUN® Facebook page, nothing can describe the true beauty and all the senses that are enhance by the surrounding culture and landscape in Cancún.

This article is to share with you this moving and energizing experience that I will never forget.

.

This is how my journey began …

I started my journey in Cancún city, located on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Península in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo.  KANKUN® SauceThere I met one of my good pals from childhood, nicknamed “El Chinon” (Mexican nick named for curly haired… well when he used to have hair!). He had many plans in mind for us, besides catching up over some chelas (beers) and tacos, he wanted to take me around to discover the best of the Yucatecan cuisine, revive the best Mexican traditions for Christmas and New Year as well as to explore the exotic and enigmatic Maya territory.

Christmas eve flowed fast, smiles, jokes, music, and a warm welcome of Chinon’s family were present all night… the Mexican piñata, exotic spicy candies, very popular with the kids;  and fabulous Christmas Mexican food (turkey, bacalo,  jalapenos chilies filled with tuna,  romeros, salad)  made an unforgettable Christmas  celebration.

KANKUN SauceWhen Christmas is over and to cure the “cruda” (hangover), a visit must be paid to one of the most popular places for local “Loncheria el Pocito” were only true Yucatecan recipes are served:  tamales, panuchospapadzules, lima soup and queso relleno.

KANKUN® Sauce

By the new year I was ready to “Liberate the luchador” by jumping  into the ring of touring throughout the cultural sites around Maya land,  as well as  exploring Mexican recipes to try with our KANKUN® chipotle sauce.

The adventure was breathtaking and I started by visiting the Tulum archaeological ruins (last cities inhabited and built by the Mayans), swimming through the inspiring Rio Secreto Senotes (60 feet underground, were the Mayas used to hold sacred ceremonies), standing in front of the third biggest pyramid in the world Chichen Itza (one of the seven modern wonders of the world), walking around the Sian Ka’an (biosphere reserved and UNESCO world heritage site since 1987), cooking with local chefs and making new friends.

Now I feel even prouder that the name of our KANKUN® sauce was inspired on such marvellous and breathtaking place. Still there is so much yet to be uncovered, that is why I promised to come back soon to Cancún.
