This month we are doing a competition of a holiday to Mexico – Cozumel, sponsored by our friends of Aeromexico and Cozumel Fest.
Why Cozumel?
Friends are often surprised when I say that Cozumel is one of my favorite destinations in Mexico. Most have only seen the island on daytrips from cruise ships or short hops from the mainland. Visitors who delve deeper into neighborhoods and deserted beaches will quickly realize that Cozumel is a real Mexico and Maya community where ladies dress in embroidered glouse and travel with dignity three-wheel bicycle cabs. Tranquil aquamarine coves draw solitary snorkelers while long white beaches provide idyllic settings for picnics and sunset strolls. It’s easy to go off on your own and experience Cozumel’s genuine Mexican hospitality and KanKuntastic scenery.
Food of course….
The Mercado Municipal is a joy where you could eat tortas and tacos or enjoy the display of fresh bananas, papayas, mangoes, avocados and other safe, peel-able fruit at produce stands, if you feel adventurous you will be rewarded with authentic, inexpensive meals and picnic supplies. One of my favorites dishes ceviche or octopus sauteed with garlic and chilies. or the traiditon Yucatecan dishes such as cochinita pibil (marinated pork) and pescado tikin-xic (fish baked with achiote) appear on special menus in the local restaurants.
A paradise for diving, do not miss Cozumel Fest 2015…
“The clear blue seas of the Caribbean island of Cozumel offer a sure invite to visitors to discover what lies beyond its stunning beaches. In the seventies, the island was transformed into a leading destination for underwater diving. Its crystalline waters, fabulous reef formations and the Caribbean’s only drift-diving experience made this location a favorite for divers from across the globe.
The reefs remain in a state of majestic perfection thanks to the Yucatan canal stream. See the beauty of these marine formations for yourself from December 8th to 14th, at this year’s Scuba Fest, one of the leading underwater diving events in Mexico. This year’s event will celebrate the region’s sea life and will give the creatures that defend our oceans.” (source http://www.visitmexico.com/en/cozumel-scuba-fest)
