Mexicans are a romantic lot and it seems that their food could have something to do with it. So many foods native to Mexico are in fact, natural aphrodisiacs, and have been used as such for centuries. Chocolate, avocadoes, vanilla and not least the mighty chilli all have properties that put you in the mood for love.

Chillies have an almost mythical nature in Mexico. They are the source of much discussion and many cheeky jokes in the Mexican kitchen. Chillies release endorphins into the bloodstream making you feel energized. Not only that but the chemical capsaicin that gives the chilli its spice also increases the heart rate, plumps the lips and raises the body temperature. Now, I don’t think I need to explain why all of that has an aphrodisiacal effect on the eater. Is it any wonder that chillies are also addictive? The last emperor of the Aztecs, Moctezuma was said to delight in the effects of a chilli and vanilla infused cocoa (yes, that is three aphrodisiacs in one drink), before visiting his concubines. Now that gives a whole new meaning to the idea of a ‘night cap’.

Here at KANKUN® HQ we like to harness the power of the chilli to spice up your dinner table, but now it is your chance to use it to add a little fire to your Valentine’s. Here’s our spicy meal plan for you and that special someone.
