Guacamole, a dip made from avocados, is originally from Mexico. The name is derived from two Aztec Nahuatl words – ahuacatl (avocado) and molli (sauce). The trick to perfect guacamole is using good, ripe avocados. My granny used to say…”check for ripeness by gently pressing the outside of the avocado. If there is no give, the avocado is not ripe yet and will not taste good. If there is a little give, the avocado is ripe. If there is a lot of give, the avocado may be past ripe and not good”
Try our simple and delicious recipe:
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ripe avocados
- 2 tbsp of fresh lime juice or lemon juice
- 2 tbsp to 1/4 cup of chopped onion
- 1-2 Tbsp of KANKUN chipotle if you like it smoky-hot or 1 tsp of KANKUN® Habanero if you like it hot.
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped cilantro
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 ripe tomato
Serve with tortilla chips or as a garish of your favourite dish.
METHOD
1 Cut the avocados in half. Remove seed. Scoop out avocado from the peel, put in a mixing bowl.
2 Using a fork, roughly mash the avocado. (Don’t overdo it! The guacamole should be a little chunky.)
3 Sprinkle with salt and the lime (or lemon) juice. The acid in the lime juice will help delay the avocados from turning brown.
4 Add the chopped onion, cilantro, black pepper, and your preferred KANKUN® SAUCE.
5 Add chopped tomato to your guacamole.
Served with nachos or as a garnish of your favourite dish.
